Patna: Two police personnel have been suspended in connection with the death of a NEET aspirant at Shambhu Girls’ Hostel in Patna, following serious allegations of negligence.
According to information from the Patna Senior Superintendent of Police’s office, Chitragupta Nagar station house officer Roshni Kumari and Kadamkuan sub-inspector Hemant Jha were found guilty of dereliction of duty. Acting on the findings, senior officials ordered their immediate suspension.
Authorities admitted that despite receiving information about the incident, both officers failed to take timely action and effectively ignored the matter. Crucial evidence was not secured for three days after the incident — the hostel, the room, the bed and the victim’s clothes were neither sealed nor preserved. Action was initiated only after three days, following which senior officers were allegedly misled. The lack of accurate information at the initial stage caused significant difficulties in the investigation.
On Saturday, two major developments came to light in the case. First, the forensic team submitted its investigation report to the Special Investigation Team (SIT). The report confirmed the presence of sperm on the student’s clothes. Following this revelation, DNA samples of the arrested accused, along with other suspects identified by the SIT, will be matched for further verification.
The second disclosure was made by Dr Vinay Kumar of AIIMS Patna. The Head of the Department of Forensic Sciences stated that a special team had been constituted to probe the death case nearly a week ago. However, the SIT provided incomplete documents, leading to delays in the forensic examination.
Investigations in the case are continuing, and it remains to be seen how soon the police are able to reach the perpetrators.
