Bihar DGP Vinay Kumar
From Neeraj Kumar
Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has reportedly received a threat from a man identified as Pakistan-based Shehzad Bhatti, following a controversy linked to an alleged hijab incident. The threat surfaced through a video that has gone viral on social media, in which Bhatti warns the Chief Minister to issue an apology, failing which he threatens “serious consequences”.
The video is connected to the recent hijab row, in which Mr Kumar was accused of removing the hijab of a Muslim woman doctor during a public function. Given the gravity of the matter, the Bihar Police Headquarters has swung into action.
Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar has taken immediate cognisance of the issue and ordered a detailed investigation. The inquiry has been entrusted to the Inspector General (IG) of Police, Patna, who is monitoring the case closely. According to the DGP, a technical examination is underway to verify the authenticity of the video, its source and the location from where it was uploaded.
Security Review for the Chief Minister
Police sources said a team of cyber experts is analysing the digital footprints of the viral video. Investigators are trying to establish whether the video was genuinely uploaded from Pakistan or if it is part of a larger, organised conspiracy. At the same time, the Chief Minister’s security arrangements are being reviewed to rule out any potential threat.
DGP’s Clear Stand
Addressing the media, DGP Vinay Kumar said the threat has been taken very seriously. He stated that the matter concerns the Chief Minister’s security and dignity, and therefore senior officers are conducting the probe. “Every angle will be examined thoroughly. Any conspiracy or attempt to spread misinformation will be exposed,” he said.
How the Hijab Controversy Began
The controversy dates back to December 15, during an appointment letter distribution programme for AYUSH doctors in Patna. During the event, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was seen removing the hijab of a woman doctor, identified as Nusrat Parveen. A video of the incident quickly went viral, triggering sharp political and social reactions.
Viral Video from Pakistan
In the viral clip, Shehzad Bhatti claims that a person holding a high constitutional position in Bihar behaved inappropriately with a Muslim woman. He demands a public apology from Mr Kumar and issues a warning of dire consequences if the demand is not met. The video has since spread rapidly across social media platforms.
Police Appeal to the Public
The Bihar Police have urged people not to share such videos without verification and to stay away from rumours. Officials said only verified information will be shared after the investigation is complete. If any criminal intent is established behind the threat, strict legal action will be taken.
Given that the issue is directly linked to the Chief Minister’s security, authorities have described it as highly sensitive. A thorough technical probe is underway to trace the origin of the video, identify the account used, and determine whether there is any organised plot behind it. The public has once again been advised to remain cautious and not to fuel unverified claims.
