Patna: Political circles in Bihar are once again abuzz with speculation over the residence of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav. Following an official order directing former Chief Minister Rabri Devi to vacate the government bungalow at 10 Circular Road, questions have intensified over where Lalu Yadav and his family will move next.
Earlier, it was widely believed that the Lalu Prasad family would shift to their private residence under construction at Mahua Bagh in Patna. However, a fresh round of discussion has now gained momentum, suggesting a different location as the family’s possible new home.
Kautilya Nagar emerges as new contender
According to the latest buzz, Lalu Prasad Yadav’s new address could be a nearly completed, lavish house in Patna’s Kautilya Nagar area. The house is reportedly close to completion, with finishing work in its final stages, and preparations for a housewarming ceremony are said to be underway. In such a scenario, the Lalu family may shift there once the 10 Circular Road bungalow is vacated.
Order to vacate 10 Circular Road
The Bihar government’s Building Construction Department has issued formal instructions to Rabri Devi to vacate the government accommodation at 10 Circular Road. The bungalow has been associated with the Lalu–Rabri family for nearly two decades and has long been regarded as a symbol of their political presence in the state.
Even after losing power and following Nitish Kumar’s return as Chief Minister, Rabri Devi continued to reside in the bungalow for years. However, after the department’s directive, it is now widely believed that the family will have to vacate the premises, fuelling intense speculation about their next move.

From Mahua Bagh to Kautilya Nagar
After the government order, initial discussions centred on Lalu Yadav shifting with his family to his newly built private residence at Mahua Bagh. The Mahua Bagh property has remained in the political spotlight, with JD(U) leader Neeraj Kumar repeatedly raising questions about the construction.
Now, however, attention has shifted to the Kautilya Nagar house. Sources say the property is equipped with modern amenities and is considered suitable from a security standpoint as well.
House nearing completion
The Kautilya Nagar residence is said to be almost ready, with final finishing work underway. Senior journalist Sunil Pandey noted that there is also talk that the house has been designed keeping Lalu Prasad Yadav’s specific needs in mind, particularly health, security and convenience.
“Given that Lalu Prasad has long been travelling between Delhi and Patna due to health reasons, the need for a permanent, private and secure residence in Patna makes the Kautilya Nagar house a suitable option,” he said.

Residence with political significance
For Lalu Yadav, a residence has never been merely a place to live but also a hub of political activity. Even after being out of power, he has lived at 10 Circular Road for nearly 20 years, from where he continued to influence Bihar’s politics. Consequently, speculation over his new home inevitably carries political overtones.
If Lalu Yadav shifts to Kautilya Nagar, it is believed that the area could gradually emerge as a new centre of RJD’s political activities.
Awaiting official confirmation
As of now, there has been no official statement from Lalu Prasad Yadav or his family regarding the new residence. It remains unclear whether they will move to Mahua Bagh or the newly built house in Kautilya Nagar. However, with reports indicating that the Kautilya Nagar property is nearly ready, it is widely assumed that this could soon become Lalu Prasad Yadav’s new address.
