Patna: The Sarat Jain Memorial Bihar Sub-Junior Chess Championship concluded today after three days of intense competition. Organised by the Bhojpur District Chess Association under the aegis of the All Bihar Chess Association, the event took place at Shri Maina Sundar Dharamshala in Ara.
In the final round, Pratyush Kumar of Patna secured the title by defeating Ayush Kumar of Kishanganj on the top board. Tejas Shandilya of Muzaffarpur, competing on board two with five and a half points, lost to Avyay Sharma of Patna.
The second, third, and fourth positions were determined by tie-break points, as four players finished with six points each. Manish Yadav of Darbhanga claimed the runner-up spot, while Avyay Sharma and Om Kashyap of Patna secured third and fourth places respectively.
In the girls’ category, FIDE-rated national player Arpita Singh of Bhojpur dominated the competition, finishing with six points from six rounds to win the title. She triumphed over Aadya of Muzaffarpur in the final round, with Aadya taking fourth place. Kritika Ranjan of Patna and Navya Goenka of Muzaffarpur secured second and third positions, defeating Shalini Srivastava of Patna and Simran Kumari of Bhojpur in their respective final matches.
The prize distribution ceremony was attended by Dharmendra Kumar, Treasurer of the All India Chess Federation, along with special guests Dr. S.K. Rungta, Nishi Jain, Shubhraj Soumya, Deepak Jain, and Dhirendra Jain. They presented the winners with cash prizes and certificates. The event was presided over by Dr. K.N. Singh, President of the Bhojpur District Chess Association, with Secretary Mohammad Saifullah Fahim Saif delivering the vote of thanks.
Also in attendance were chief arbiter Nand Kishore, co-arbiter Iqbal Alam, and judges Shahid Hussain, Virendra Kumar Upadhyay, Ranjan Kumar, and Nidhi Kumari.
