Patna: The Patna Railway Police have dismantled a gang involved in snatching mobile phones and selling them abroad. The ringleader, Roshan Kumar, remains at large, and police are actively conducting raids to arrest him. Roshan allegedly hired criminals for Rs 1,000 per day to carry out these crimes.
The gang members snatched mobile phones, chains, and other valuables, primarily targeting passengers on moving trains in Bihar and other states. The stolen phones were sent from Bihar to Malda, West Bengal, before being smuggled to Bangladesh.
So far, six members of the gang have been apprehended, and police have recovered nine smartphones, two keypad mobiles, Rs 210 in cash, two watches, and a mobile charger. The estimated value of the recovered items is Rs 1.5 lakh.
The arrested individuals include Shahnawaz Khan (22) from Khusrupur, Patna; Mohammad Sultan (19) from East Champaran; Mysore Raj (23) from Gaya; Sarwan Kumar (28) from Nalanda; and Kundan Kumar (28) from Jamui. A juvenile involved in the gang was also taken into custody.
According to Patna Railway Police SP Amritendu Shekhar Thakur, Roshan Kumar recruited these individuals to execute the criminal activities and paid them Rs 1,000 daily for their involvement. The gang operated at railway stations in and around Patna, snatching mobile phones, many of which were later sold in Bangladesh.
The process of sending the six arrested criminals to jail has begun. In addition to mobile phones, two watches and three sharp blades used for pickpocketing were also recovered. The police are continuing their efforts to locate and arrest Roshan Kumar.
