Patna: The newly constructed electric crematorium complex at Bans Ghat in Patna is now ready, with final touches being made to its operations and essential arrangements. Authorities are introducing an online booking facility for cremations, while ensuring that all funeral-related services are available within a single premises, sparing families the need to run around during last rites.
Efforts are also underway to regulate the cost of funeral materials, ensuring that mourners are not overcharged. Prices for all essential items are being standardised, and quotations have been invited. Suppliers offering good-quality materials at the lowest rates will be selected. The construction agency, BUDCO, has been entrusted with maintenance and related work for five years, while discussions are ongoing with the Isha Foundation regarding the facility’s operation.
Funeral materials will be available near the Moksha Dwar, including cloth, dhotis, ghee, sandalwood, incense sticks, camphor, rose water, barley, and other ritual items—around 45 in total. The complex will also provide facilities for traditional cremation, with fixed-price arrangements for wood, including 40 kg each of sal and mango wood.
In addition, arrangements for food and refreshments are being made within the crematorium premises. Shops have been constructed to offer items such as puri, jalebi, vegetables, vegetarian meals, rasgulla, and gulab jamun, among others. A total of 13 key food items will be made available at standardised rates, along with a dedicated canteen.
The modern crematorium at Bans Ghat is set to offer a comprehensive range of services—from online booking to food facilities—aimed at easing the process of last rites for grieving families.
