Patna: Tension gripped the Vyapur locality under Maner police station in Danapur subdivision of Patna after sudden violence erupted late on Friday night. The residence of Rajendra Prasad, relative by marriage of Bihar Agriculture Minister Ramkripal Yadav, was allegedly targeted in a brutal armed attack by neighbours.
According to family members, the assailants opened fire indiscriminately, reportedly discharging around 15 rounds, before storming the house with swords and sticks. The attackers carried out a violent assault, triggering panic across the area.
A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media, with gunshots clearly audible. Police have recovered spent cartridges from the scene.
Three persons sustained serious injuries in the attack. The injured have been identified as Rajesh Kumar alias Pappu, son of Rajendra Prasad; Manish alias Guddu, son of Bhupendra Singh; and Nitish alias Bablu. Manish and Nitish are undergoing treatment at AIIMS Patna, while Rajesh Kumar has been admitted to a private nursing home in Danapur.
Victim Manish Kumar directly accused four individuals — Mukesh, Deepak, Prince and others — alleging that they were neighbours and carried out the attack due to an old enmity. He stated that the accused first opened fire near his house and then launched a physical assault with weapons.
“Last night around 9 pm, several individuals, including Rakesh Kumar, Mukesh Kumar, Nitish Kumar, Ayush Kumar, Deepak Kumar and Prince Raj, arrived near my house and began firing without provocation. I was assaulted, and my brothers, who came to rescue me, were also attacked,” Manish Kumar said.
Maner police said they reached the spot promptly after receiving information and have begun an investigation. Empty bullet shells have been seized, and raids are underway to arrest the accused.
“Prima facie, the incident appears to be the result of a personal rivalry. However, conclusions will be drawn only after a thorough investigation,” police officials said.
Following the incident, fear has spread across the Vyapur area. Police deployment has been increased as a precautionary measure to prevent any further untoward incidents. Local residents have expressed concern over the law and order situation.
The attack on the relative of a sitting minister has also stirred political circles. The family has demanded swift arrest of the accused and adequate security. Police have assured that firm action will be taken soon.
