Patna District School Sports Meet 2024-25 Kicks Off with Grand Inauguration

Patna: The vibrant inauguration of the Patna District Level School Sports Meet 2024-25 took place on Monday at the Pataliputra Sports Complex, Kankarbagh. The event featured an impressive march-past by approximately 7,000 participants, accompanied by the band of Dhaneshwari Devnandan Kanya Uchcha Madhyamik Vidyalaya.

Organised under the aegis of the Sports Department and Bihar State Sports Authority, the five-day competition was officially inaugurated by Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh (IAS), District Magistrate of Patna, who hoisted the flag and released balloons to mark the occasion. In his address, he highlighted the significance of sports for both physical and mental development. Emphasising the importance of sportsmanship, he encouraged the participants to engage in sports with enthusiasm, irrespective of the outcome. Dr. Singh also noted the state government’s ongoing efforts to develop sports infrastructure and support athletes, mentioning the recent inauguration of an international-level sports academy and sports university in Rajgir.

Shri Sanjay Kumar, District Education Officer of Patna, who was present as a special guest, urged the participants to seize this opportunity to showcase their talents and gain recognition in the field of sports.

The guests were warmly welcomed by  Om Prakash, District Sports Officer of Patna and Organising Secretary of the event, who presented them with green plants and souvenirs. The programme was conducted by Abhishek Kumar, N.I.S. Trainer and Physical Education Teacher at Higher Secondary School, Panal. National Kho-Kho player Puja Kumari administered the oath to the participants, encouraging them to adhere to the rules and exhibit sportsmanship throughout the competition. The chief guest also awarded students from Dhaneshwari Devnandan Kanya Uchcha Madhyamik Vidyalaya for their outstanding band performance.

Honoured guests, Lokesh Kumar Jha, District Information Public Relations Officer of Patna, and  Rajendra Kumar, Sports Executive of Bihar State Sports Authority, Patna, were also present at the inauguration.

This year’s meet includes around 7,000 boys and girls from Under-14, Under-17, and Under-19 age groups, studying in recognised middle, secondary, and higher secondary schools of Patna district, as well as schools affiliated with the CBSE and ICSE boards. The participants are competing in a variety of sports including athletics, wrestling, weightlifting, kho-kho, badminton, taekwondo, basketball, boxing, yoga, karate, chess, handball, volleyball, kabaddi, cricket, rugby, hockey, wushu, and football.

Results of Monday’s Competitions:

Basketball:

  • Girls Under-19:
    Notre Dame Academy defeated Loyola High School 27-9. Maryam and Ayat from Notre Dame each scored 6 points, while Sania from Loyola scored 8 points. Notre Dame had earlier defeated St. Michael High School 16-9 in the semi-final, and Loyola High School beat DPS 17-2 to reach the final.

Kho-Kho:

  • Girls Under-14 Semi-finals:
    Mount Litera Zee School, Barh defeated Mount Litera Zee School, Danapur by 3 points.
    Mahila Charkha Samiti Madhya Vidyalaya, Patna City defeated Shivam Convent by 9 points.
  • Girls Under-17 Semi-finals:
    The first semi-final match between Bapu Higher Secondary School, Patna and St. Teresa International School, Bihta will be played on Tuesday.
    The second semi-final between St. Joseph Convent, Jethuli, and Tribhuvan Higher Secondary School, Patna will also take place on Tuesday.
