Patna: Bihar’s newly appointed Director General of Police (DGP), Alok Raj, met Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for the first time on Monday after assuming office. The meeting lasted for approximately half an hour, during which the Chief Minister is said to have provided guidelines concerning law and order.
Law and order have long been the hallmark of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s administration. In 2005, when the NDA government was formed under his leadership, the situation in Bihar was far from satisfactory. The Chief Minister took on the challenge of improving law and order as a priority.
Today, once again, the opposition is consistently criticising him over the state of law and order. In response, the Chief Minister has entrusted Alok Raj with the responsibility of leading the police force as Bihar’s DGP. He has also instructed him to focus on enhancing law and order across the state.
Since taking over as DGP on August 30, Alok Raj has been offering advice to his officers regarding law and order. Following his assumption of office, he visited his native village, then proceeded to Muzaffarpur, where he held a meeting with police officials.
Despite the significance of the discussion, the Chief Minister’s Secretariat has described the meeting between DGP Alok Raj and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar as a courtesy call. Alok Raj, an IPS officer from the 1989 batch, was appointed as DGP of Bihar following the departure of former DGP RS Bhatti, who has taken on the role of Director General of CISF.
