Major Infrastructure Overhaul Underway at Patna University with 11 Projects in the Pipeline

By Neeraj Kumar

Patna: Patna University is set for a major infrastructure transformation, with 11 projects in progress or on the horizon. Over Rs 370 crore in funding has been approved by the state government and the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) for various development schemes. Some works, including the renovation of Wheeler Senate Hall and the International Hostel, have already been completed.

Several key projects are currently underway, such as the construction of the Administrative Building, Arts Academic Building, and Examination Building. In the near future, work will begin on the Science Block Academic Building, two girls’ hostels, and the Population Research Centre.

Patna University Vice Chancellor Prof. Ajay Kumar Singh has directed that all these projects progress swiftly, particularly in light of the upcoming NAAC evaluation. While most of the funding is provided by the state government, some projects are being supported by RUSA. The construction of the Administrative Building and Arts Block is advancing rapidly.

At Patna College, the Examination Hall is under construction, and the National Dolphin Research Centre is nearing completion, though some equipment is yet to be installed. The Advanced Research Centre, funded by RUSA, will receive Rs 2.38 crore for equipment, with tenders to be issued soon.

Prof. Birendra Prasad, Director of Patna University’s IQAC, confirmed that work on major projects is progressing at a fast pace, with the Girls’ Hostel and Science Block set to begin soon. The International Hostel project has also been completed. However, a significant proposal for Rs 713 crore to develop the South Campus is still awaiting state government approval. If granted, total infrastructure development projects worth Rs 1,000 crore will be in the pipeline.
