Patna: The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) has achieved a major breakthrough in the Bihar Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE-3) paper leak case with the arrest of a key member linked to the alleged mastermind Sanjeev Mukhiya’s gang. A special EOU team conducted a raid in the Gola Road area of the state capital and apprehended an accused who is believed to have played an active role in multiple paper leak incidents.
The arrested accused has been identified as Bipul Kumar, also known as Bipul Sharma. Investigators say he was involved not only in the Bihar TRE-3 teacher recruitment examination paper leak but also in leaking the Haryana STET examination paper. Officials expect several crucial revelations during further interrogation.
According to EOU officials, an FIR was registered at the Economic Offences Police Station after the paper leak came to light in the teacher recruitment examination conducted through the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC). Since then, the EOU has been carrying out an intensive investigation and tightening the noose around members of the racket, leading to this latest success.
In a press release, the EOU said that a total of 289 accused have been arrested in the case so far. Raids are continuing to trace and arrest other absconding accused. On Monday, acting on a tip-off that Bipul Kumar, a wanted member of the Sanjeev Mukhiya gang, was hiding at his residence on Gola Road, the special team verified the information and swiftly conducted a raid, leading to his arrest.
During questioning, Bipul Kumar reportedly made several important disclosures. He admitted to working with Sanjeev Mukhiya and other gang members to lure candidates appearing in competitive examinations with false promises of ensuring their success, in return for hefty sums of money. He also confessed to being actively involved in the conspiracy to leak the STET examination paper held in Haryana in 2023.
EOU officials said Bipul Kumar played a significant role in the BPSC TRE-3 teacher recruitment paper leak in Bihar, facilitating the circulation of question papers and other confidential information to several candidates. The investigating agency is now probing the wider network to identify other associates and ascertain the total amount of money illegally collected.
After the completion of interrogation, Bipul Kumar was produced before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody. The Economic Offences Unit has reiterated that no one involved in serious crimes such as paper leaks will be spared, and more prominent names linked to the racket may be exposed in the coming days.
