Patna: Kartik of Patna triumphed over his teammate Saksham Vatsa in a thrilling three-game match, winning 21-15, 14-21, 21-14, to claim the boys’ singles title at the Hundred 2nd Bihar Junior (U-19) Ranking Badminton Tournament. The event was held at Girdhari Nagar Bhawan (Town Hall) in Madhubani on Monday.
In the girls’ singles, Srija of Patna secured the title by defeating Suhnai Kumari of Muzaffarpur in straight sets, 21-16, 21-18.
The girls’ doubles title went to the pair of Suhani Kumari of Muzaffarpur and Vaibhavi Singh of Katihar, who overcame Kumari Bhawana and Kumari Varsha of Bhojpur in a hard-fought three-set match, winning 13-12, 21-14, 21-18.
In the boys’ doubles final, Rishabh Raj of Samastipur and Saksham Vatsa of Patna emerged victorious, defeating Parag Singh of Munger and Ranveer Singh of Patna with a scoreline of 21-17, 6-21, 21-18.
Madhubani SP Sushil Kumar and Bihar Badminton Association president Abdul Bari Siddiqui jointly presented the cash prizes and trophies to the winners and runners-up.
Addressing the players, former minister and Bihar Badminton Association president Abdul Bari Siddiqui announced that he would allocate Rs 1 crore from his discretionary fund for the construction of a new badminton hall in Madhubani. He also assured that additional funds would be arranged if required.
Bihar Badminton Association secretary KN Jaiswal hosted the prize-distribution ceremony. Madhubani District Badminton Association secretary Suresh Kumar Bairolia, joint secretary Indra Bhushan Raman “BamBam”, executive member Ajay Dhari Singh, Katihar secretary Sanjeev Kumar, and Muzaffarpur secretary Neeraj Kumar also distributed kit bags, badminton rackets, and other prizes to the winners and runners-up.
