Patna: Haryana staged a remarkable recovery on the opening day of their Colonel CK Nayudu Trophy Under-23 Men’s Cricket match against Bihar, finishing at 355/7 in 90 overs at the Gurugram Cricket Ground, Sultanpur. The lower order shone as Haryana overcame early setbacks, thanks to a vital partnership of 186 runs for the seventh wicket between centurions Samant Jakhar (115) and Parth Vats (109*).
Winning the toss and opting to field, Bihar made an early impact, reducing Haryana to 96/5. Fast bowler Harsh Nanda struck the first blow by dismissing opener Arsh Ranga for 1, followed by incisive spin bowling from Manish Kumar and Anup Kumar, which dismantled Haryana’s top order. Yashwardhan Dalal, who had scored a century against Mumbai earlier in the tournament, managed only 9 runs before falling to Manish Kumar.
Haryana’s revival began with a 48-run sixth-wicket partnership between Parth Vats and Parth Nagil (24). The game turned decisively in Haryana’s favour when Vats and Jakhar formed a patient and determined stand, steering the team past the 300-run mark. Jakhar’s fine innings ended just before stumps, but not before he had laid a strong foundation for the team.
For Bihar, Harsh Nanda, Anup Kumar, and Manish Kumar each claimed two wickets, with one dismissal coming via a run-out.
