Patna: In a significant breakthrough, four members of an auto lifter gang were arrested in the Kankarbagh police station area and another four in the Kotwali police station area of the capital, Patna. The police recovered 23 mobile phones, a tempo, and ₹8,200 in cash from the suspects. Following their interrogation, further raids are being conducted to apprehend other members of the gang. Sadar SP Sweety Sehrawat provided details of the arrest in a press conference.
The police had been receiving daily complaints from the Kankarbagh, Kotwali, Kadam Kuan, Gandhi Maidan, and Shastri Nagar police station areas, where passengers reported being robbed after boarding autos. The gang operated by posing as passengers in autos, picking up unsuspecting victims, and taking them to deserted locations where they would rob them before fleeing. In response, the police launched a swift operation and formed a raid team.
The team’s efforts led to the arrest of a tempo driver and his accomplice from the Bahadurpur ROB, where they were found with a stolen tempo and snatched mobile phones. Based on their information, two more criminals were apprehended, along with several stolen mobile phones and cash. Later, an intensive operation was carried out in the Kotwali police station area, resulting in the arrest of four more gang members.
The auto lifter gang had been continuously committing robberies, snatchings, and thefts across Patna. Following their increasing activities, a special team was formed to investigate. As a result, Santosh Kumar, Suraj Kumar, Ashutosh Kumar, and Rahul Kumar were arrested. Sadar SP Sweety Sehrawat confirmed that 23 mobile phones, a tempo, and ₹8,200 in cash were recovered from the gang members.
