Patna: Police have apprehended eight cybercriminals in separate operations across the city. Among them, six individuals from Telangana were arrested in the Ramakrishna Nagar area for defrauding people under the guise of providing loans, while two others were detained in Bahadurpur for using APK apps to carry out scams.

Telangana-Based Group Arrested in Ramakrishna Nagar

According to Cyber DSP Raghavendra Mani Tripathi, the six individuals from Telangana posed as representatives of a fake finance company to dupe unsuspecting victims. “They lured people through fake advertisements and created fraudulent documents. Many such documents have been recovered during the operation,” he stated.

The police tracked the criminals using a mobile number linked to their activities. Upon raiding their hideout, officers discovered 32 mobile phones, internet routers, and other incriminating materials. The group had been operating in Patna for the past two months.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that their operation was orchestrated by a kingpin from Nalanda, identified as Pradeep Kumar, alias Suraj Kumar, and his accomplice Shambhu. The mastermind had promised each participant a monthly payment of ₹20,000 and lured them to Patna under the pretext of employment in the metro project. Instead, they were coerced into cyber fraud.

Two Arrested in Bahadurpur for APK App Scams

In another operation, two cybercriminals were arrested in Bahadurpur. They specialised in scamming people through APK applications.

Rising Incidents of Cyber Fraud in Patna

The arrests come amid an increase in cybercrime cases in Patna. Recently, an elderly woman was defrauded of nearly ₹3 crore in the Kadam Kuan area, while an elderly man in Lodipur lost approximately ₹64 lakh to scammers posing as high-ranking officials.

The police are continuing their investigation to determine the full extent of the crimes and recover the money swindled from victims. These arrests are part of an intensified effort to curb cybercrime in the state capital.
