Patna: Chanakya National Law University (CNLU) Patna, has become the first university in Bihar to implement a menstrual leave policy. A letter confirming this significant step was issued by the university’s Registrar, SP Singh. Following its approval during the Executive Council meeting, female students can now avail one day of leave per month during their studies.

This progressive policy aims to provide much-needed relief to female students and is expected to set a benchmark for other institutions in the state.

Other Major Decisions by the Executive Council

  1. Flexible Course Completion:
In a bid to reduce academic stress, the council has approved a policy allowing students to complete their courses at their own pace. Students may now fast-track their studies by taking on additional courses per year.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Faizan Mustafa expressed satisfaction with this student-focused decision. He emphasised the importance of balancing academic rigor with well-being, stating, “I want my students to enjoy their academic life without undue stress. Academic pressure has, unfortunately, led to many young students taking drastic steps.”

  2. New Courses in Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics:
The council also approved the introduction of new courses in cybersecurity and digital forensics. Additionally, specialised training programmes in forensics will be launched to assist police personnel in their work.
  3. Revised LLM Curriculum:
A new LLM course manual was approved, featuring over 50% of its content focused on research. This aims to enhance the academic depth of postgraduate studies at CNLU.
  4. Faculty Recruitment Priorities:
The university will prioritise candidates holding foreign degrees from reputed institutions during faculty recruitment.

Government Support and Presence

Bihar Government Education Department Secretary Vaidya Nath Yadav assured full support to elevate the university’s academic standing. He pledged government assistance to help CNLU achieve excellence.
