Bihar Sports Academy and University Inaugurated in Rajgir: A New Era for State Sports

Rajgir: With the inauguration of the State Sports Academy in Rajgir, Bihar, the golden era of a sports revolution in the Bihar has begun.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the State Sports Academy and Bihar Sports University during a ceremony held on Thursday in Rajgir, Nalanda. International players from Bihar were also honoured at the Sports Honours ceremony. The establishment of the Sports Academy in Rajgir marks the dawn of a new era in Bihar’s sporting landscape.

Ravindran Sankaran, Director General of the Bihar State Sports Authority and Director of the State Sports Academy, stated that the establishment of the Sports Academy and Sports University would significantly advance the sports sector in Bihar. He expressed confidence that by 2032, players from Bihar will participate in the Olympics and bring home medals.

MLA Shreyasi Singh, who represented India in the Olympics, highlighted the tremendous opportunities that the Sports Academy and Sports University will provide for athletes in Bihar. She emphasised that this initiative would bring much-deserved recognition to the players. An exhibition match between the Indian women’s hockey teams was organised on this occasion. The Academy will host not only international-level competitions but also provide athletes with world-class training.

The Sports Academy boasts facilities for a wide range of indoor and outdoor sports, including football, hockey, basketball, volleyball, handball, lawn tennis, wrestling, weightlifting, kabaddi, fencing, table tennis, shooting, archery, and badminton. This is the only international sports complex in the country offering training in such a diverse array of sports simultaneously. The State Sports Academy is equipped to provide athletes with international-level scientific training. Furthermore, modern sports infrastructure has been developed to host global events.

Bihar Sports University has been established with the aim of serving as a premier research and training centre for sports. Additionally, an international-standard cricket stadium is under construction in Rajgir, with completion expected by June 2025.
