Patna: Young badminton talent of Bihar has delivered an impressive performance at the Yonex Sunrise Sub-Junior (U-15/17) National Badminton Championship held in Chennai on Sunday. Players from the state showcased their skills in both the U-15 and U-17 categories, advancing to the higher rounds in this prestigious national tournament.
In the boys’ U-15 singles event, Md Ashadullah from Bihar emerged victorious against Goa’s Sahne D’Souza. He dominated the match with a convincing 21-11, 21-15 win, securing his place in the third round. Ashadullah’s consistent and composed game highlighted his ability to handle pressure, marking him as a strong contender for the upcoming rounds.
On the girls’ side, Soumya Bharti made waves in the U-15 singles category. In her first-round match, Soumya faced a challenging opponent, Anu Laa from Arunachal Pradesh. Despite losing the first set 21-23 in a close battle, she made a remarkable comeback to win the next two sets 21-10 and 21-14, claiming victory and advancing to the second round. Soumya continued her winning streak in the second round with a dominant performance, defeating Lakshmita G of Andaman and Nicobar 21-8, 21-4, securing a spot in the third round.
In the boys’ U-17 singles, Saksham Vats from Bihar showcased his talents with two consecutive wins. In the first round, he outplayed Abhinav Kandari from Uttarakhand, securing a 21-10, 21-14 victory. Vats maintained his momentum in the second round, where he again delivered a strong performance, defeating Partha Gawai from Haryana with the same scoreline of 21-10, 21-14. His consistent form and powerful gameplay have propelled him into the third round.
In the girls’ U-17 singles category, Bihar’s Srija also demonstrated exceptional skill. She started her campaign by defeating Gujarat’s Anvi Patel with a commanding 21-9, 21-14 victory in the second round. Later, in a fiercely contested third-round match, Srija faced Jessica from Arunachal Pradesh. After dropping the second set 11-21, Srija regained her focus to win the final set 21-13, securing her place in the pre-quarterfinals.
