Patna: The Revenue and Land Reforms Department in Bihar has taken unprecedented action against negligence and corruption within its ranks during the ongoing land survey. In a decisive move, 12 Circle Officers (COs) involved in corrupt practices have been suspended, and the salaries of 189 underperforming COs have been withheld. Revenue and Land Reforms Minister Dr Dilip Jaiswal stated that this is the most significant action of its kind since India’s independence.
The special land survey, which began in August this year, aims to address land-related issues and streamline records. However, complaints about delays in providing timely documents to farmers prompted the department to act firmly.
Minister’s Stern Warning to Officials
Speaking to local media, Dr Dilip Jaiswal issued a clear warning to officers and staff in the Revenue Department. He said,
“Whether it’s survey work or any service we provide to the public, I have made it clear that any negligence, delays, or corruption will not be tolerated. I will ensure no one escapes accountability.”
Jaiswal emphasised that this action serves as a serious warning to other zonal officers and employees who might engage in misconduct.
“No one can evade my scrutiny or escape my pen. Just as fate is determined by Yamraj, the fate of negligent officers will also be decided. My firm stance will become evident in the times to come,” he declared.
Accountability at All Levels
The department has been issuing repeated warnings to its officials. Recently, Additional Chief Secretary Deepak Kumar instructed divisional commissioners to take strict measures against Land Sub-Collectors (DCLRs) who have pending work or fail to complete tasks efficiently. Kumar also directed that all work must be conducted online to ensure transparency.
This crackdown highlights the Bihar government’s determination to eliminate inefficiencies and corruption, ensuring that public services are delivered promptly and fairly. The ongoing land survey is a key initiative aimed at streamlining land records and providing relief to farmers, and the government appears resolute in its commitment to achieving these goals.
