Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the newly constructed Patna Collectorate building on Tuesday. With this five-storey structure, all 40 district administrative departments will now operate under one roof, streamlining operations and improving accessibility. Previously, the District Magistrate’s office was functioning from Hindi Bhawan.
The new collectorate, built at a cost of over ₹153.53 crore, spans 28,388 square metres and draws inspiration from Dutch-British architectural styles. Its design incorporates modern facilities, earthquake-resistant construction, and a focus on environmental sustainability, with plans for extensive greenery.
During the inauguration, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar urged district administration officials to address public grievances efficiently and transparently. He was welcomed by Building Construction Minister Jayant Raj and Secretary Kumar Ravi, who presented him with a green kalash and a memento.
The collectorate features five floors, in addition to a basement and ground floor. The District Magistrate’s office is located on the top floor, while two additional blocks—an SDO-cum-DDC block and a District Board Office-cum-Multi-Utility Block—form part of the complex.
Parking facilities for 445 vehicles have been provided, including 200 spaces in open parking and 240 in the basement. The building’s location on the banks of the Ganga enhances its visual appeal, while comprehensive security measures, including CCTV installations, ensure safety.
The project had faced legal challenges, with the matter reaching the Patna High Court during its construction phase, but it is now fully operational and ready to serve the public.
