Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Friday formally launched the world’s largest administrative and statistical exercise, ‘India Census 2027’, with a mouse click from the Chief Minister’s Secretariat. On the occasion, he called upon the people of the state to ensure active and enthusiastic participation in the census process.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the census forms the cornerstone of good governance and will play a crucial role in shaping development plans, policies and welfare programmes in the years ahead. He described Census 2027 as a historic technological initiative, noting that for the first time, it will feature fully digital data collection along with a self-enumeration facility, which will be available from April 17 to May 1, 2026.
He further stated that in the first phase of Census 2027 in the state, house listing operations and housing enumeration will be conducted from May 2 to May 31, 2026.

Appealing to all citizens, the Samrat Choudhary urged them to participate wholeheartedly in this exercise of national importance. He encouraged people to either opt for self-enumeration or extend full cooperation to enumerators to ensure an accurate, inclusive and reliable census. He added that Census 2027 would lay a strong foundation for a brighter future for Bihar and the country.
Senior officials present on the occasion included the Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Deepak Kumar, Revenue and Land Reforms Department Principal Secretary CK Anil, Secretaries to the Chief Minister Anupam Kumar and Kumar Ravi, and Special Duty Officer in the Home Department Sanjay Kumar Singh.
