Patna: At the grand centenary celebrations marking 100 years of Musallahpur Haat in Patna City, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary made significant announcements on employment and development, asserting that the state has delivered record job creation in recent years.
Addressing the gathering, he stated that nearly 1.2 million people had been provided employment over the past five years, including the appointment of 550,000 teachers. He added that under the guidance of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bihar is progressing rapidly across multiple sectors.
In a major announcement, Choudhary said the government has set a target of providing government jobs to 10 million people in the coming years. He emphasised that industrial development would be accelerated to generate fresh employment opportunities, ensuring that the state’s youth would not need to migrate elsewhere for work.
During the programme, the Deputy Chief Minister also announced financial assistance of ₹2–3 crore for the development of Musallahpur Haat. He urged Haat Committee President Uttam Mehta to prepare a concrete development plan, assuring full government support.
Choudhary praised the committee for its social initiatives, including assistance to widows, the elderly, persons with disabilities, patients, and meritorious students, calling these efforts commendable.
Committee chairman Uttam Mehta said the Haat was established on 31 March 1927, following a suggestion by a fruit and vegetable vendor, Chitkunwar Devi. Members of the Kushwaha community donated nearly two acres of land to set up the market. He also proposed plans for a 50-room student hostel, a shopping complex, and other development projects.
The centenary event highlighted both the historic legacy of Musallahpur Haat and the state government’s ambitious employment roadmap, with the Deputy CM reiterating the goal of creating one crore jobs in the future.
