Patna: Political activity in Bihar has intensified ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections. Six candidates are in the fray for five seats, with a fierce contest expected for the fifth seat between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). In view of the tight contest, the BJP has appointed observers for the Rajya Sabha election process.
The BJP has designated central observers for various states to oversee the Rajya Sabha elections. A letter to this effect has been issued on the directions of party national president Nitin Nabin. BJP national general secretary Arun Singh released a press statement regarding the appointments on Monday.
According to the list issued by the BJP, two senior leaders have been appointed as central observers to supervise the election process in Bihar. Vijay Sharma and Harsh Malhotra have been entrusted with the responsibility. They will monitor the party’s strategy, coordination with legislators and the voting process during the Rajya Sabha elections.
Vijay Sharma is the Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, while Harsh Malhotra is a Union Minister of State. Both leaders will be responsible for ensuring the victory of BJP candidates Nitin Nabin and Shivesh Kumar Ram. While Nitin Nabin’s victory is considered almost certain, the real challenge lies for Shivesh Ram, who will require three additional votes to secure a win.
BJP spokesperson Prem Ranjan Patel claimed that the party’s both candidates would emerge victorious. He said all five candidates of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would win as the alliance has sufficient numbers. Patel also hinted that several legislators from the Grand Alliance and the opposition were in contact with the BJP, indicating that there would be no difficulty in the electoral process.
He added that observers had been appointed to facilitate and oversee the election process. “We have fielded candidates for five seats in Bihar. Observers are appointed to ensure victory on all seats and to monitor the electoral process. The National Democratic Alliance will win all the seats,” he said.
