Patna: A major and startling revelation has emerged in the case of a NEET aspirant found dead at a girls’ hostel in Patna. The post-mortem report, which surfaced four days after the incident on Thursday, has given the investigation a dramatic new direction. The report clearly states that the possibility of sexual assault cannot be ruled out, significantly escalating the seriousness of the case.
Following the disclosure, police have altered the course of the probe and begun investigating the matter from the angle of rape.
On Friday, Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya Sharma addressed a press conference, stating that the case is now being treated with utmost seriousness in light of the post-mortem findings. To avoid any lapse, the report has been sent to AIIMS Patna for a second opinion. Doctors at AIIMS will re-examine the findings, and strict action will be taken against any medical personnel found to have submitted an incorrect report, the SSP said.
Acting on the family’s demand, police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case. A dedicated team has now been entrusted with the investigation, and its pace has been intensified. SSP Sharma said that police are examining every possible angle from Patna to Jehanabad. Several individuals are being questioned, and CCTV footage from the hostel and surrounding areas is being thoroughly scrutinised.
The victim’s family had repeatedly demanded access to the CCTV footage. The SSP clarified that police are prepared to show all investigation-related CCTV visuals to the family to ensure complete transparency and dispel any doubts.
Public anger continues to simmer in the area, with residents demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible and strict punishment. The student’s family has been persistently appealing for justice.
All eyes are now on the AIIMS report and the SIT’s findings, which are expected to bring further clarity in the coming days.
