Patna: Athletes across age groups and disciplines delivered strong performances at the All India Civil Services Athletics Championships, with competitors from several states and institutions winning medals. Bihar women athletes, in particular, produced standout results, bringing pride to the state.
In the veterans men’s (40–60 years) 4×100m relay, Haryana clinched first place, followed by Central Secretariat Delhi and NCT Delhi. The women’s (35–60 years) 4×100m relay saw Uttarakhand take gold, Kerala silver and Central Secretariat Delhi bronze.
In the men’s open triple jump, Pradeep of RSB Kolkata secured gold, while Vikas of NCT Delhi finished second and Sumit of RSB Bengaluru third.
Kerala’s Sunita won gold in the women’s (45–60 years) 200m, with Bihar’s Rinky Kumari claiming silver in a commendable performance, a moment of pride for the state. Tamil Nadu’s Maria Agnes took bronze. In the women’s (35–45 years) 200m, Pavitra of RSB Bengaluru finished first, followed by Ashalata of Karnataka and Ramani of Gujarat. In the women’s open 200m, RSB Chennai, RSB Mumbai and RSB Kolkata secured first, second and third places respectively. The men’s open 200m was won by RSB Mumbai, with Maharashtra second and Haryana third.

Bihar’s biggest achievement came in the women’s open javelin throw, where Anjani Kumari claimed gold, asserting her dominance in the event. RSB Bengaluru finished second and Uttarakhand third. Adding to Bihar’s medal tally, Shivani Kumari won gold in the women’s open 1500m, while Maharashtra and Central Secretariat Delhi took silver and bronze respectively.

The three-day event was held from 13 to 15 December at the Patliputra Sports Complex in Kankarbagh, Patna. It featured more than 1,000 participants, including 702 men athletes, 328 women athletes and 54 officials from across the country. The successful organisation and Bihar athletes’ impressive performances have given the state renewed recognition on the national sporting map.
