Patna: Dengue cases have surged in Bihar, with 48 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. Of these, Patna has recorded 36 cases, with the Kankarbagh zone being the worst affected, accounting for 14 cases, while the Azimabad zone has reported 10 cases. Additionally, three cases each have been found in the East and Pataliputra zones.
The total number of dengue cases in Patna has now risen to 755. Over 45 dengue patients are currently receiving treatment in both government and private hospitals across the state. To date, Bihar has recorded a total of 1,774 dengue cases.
In the most recent reports, five new cases have been identified in Madhubani, with three cases from Saran. Districts such as Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Siwan, and West Champaran are also grappling with a rise in dengue cases.
According to senior Patna-based physician, Dr Manoj Sinha, viral flu cases have also significantly increased in the region, with 10-15% of these turning out to be dengue. While the Patna Municipal Corporation claims to be taking preventive measures, such as anti-larval spraying and fogging, residents allege that these efforts are inadequate.
Dr Subhash Chandra Prasad, District Infectious Disease Control Officer, emphasised the importance of public awareness in preventing dengue. He urged residents of affected areas to sleep under mosquito nets and use mosquito repellent. He also advised spraying kerosene or other chemicals in stagnant water around homes.
“Ensure there is no accumulation of clean water around your house. Check coolers and behind refrigerators regularly to prevent water stagnation. Wearing long-sleeved clothing is also advisable. For those already infected, it is crucial to stay hydrated and remain in close contact with a doctor,” he added.
