Patna: After the conclusion of the fourth round of the Bihar Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament, jointly organised by the Bihar State Sports Authority, the Department of Sports, Government of Bihar, and the All Bihar Chess Association, as many as 19 players are tied at the top with four points each.
On the top board, Russian Grandmaster Peter Kiriakov defeated Bihar’s junior champion Divyanshu Singh in 36 moves. Playing with the black pieces, Kiriakov adopted the French Defence against Divyanshu’s e4 opening and made excellent use of his bishops to win a piece. Realising the material loss, Divyanshu eventually conceded defeat.
On board two, Bihar’s Reyan Mohammad faced a tough challenge from Uttar Pradesh’s Shivay Singh. Playing with the white pieces, Reyan secured victory after a marathon 101-move encounter. Promoting a pawn to a queen in the endgame, Reyan used his experience to outmanoeuvre Shivay.
The third board clash between Delhi’s Sameer Chaudhary and Bengal’s Alekhya Mukhopadhyay ended in a draw.

On board four, Maharashtra’s Mahendrakar Indrajeet defeated Bihar’s Prem Kumar in 55 moves using the Pirc Defence, sealing the win by capturing his opponent’s knight.
