Patna: Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar released the crime statistics for 2025, claiming a significant decline in criminal incidents across Bihar, particularly in serious offences, compared with the previous year.
Addressing a press conference at the Sardar Patel Bhawan at Bihar Police Headquarters, the DGP said sustained police action, a strengthened intelligence network and focused special drives had led to an overall improvement in the law-and-order situation in the state.
According to the data, murder cases fell by 8.3 per cent in 2025 compared with 2024. While 2,786 murders were reported across the state in 2024, the figure dropped to 2,556 in 2025. Cases of dacoity also registered a sharp decline of 26.9 per cent, coming down from 238 incidents in 2024 to 174 in 2025.
The DGP further stated that incidents of robbery showed a notable reduction as well. In 2024, as many as 1,975 robbery cases were reported, whereas the number fell to 1,558 in 2025. Riot-related cases too saw a decline of 21.5 per cent, decreasing from 3,186 in 2024 to 2,502 in 2025.
Crimes against women, particularly rape cases, also witnessed a drop. In 2024, 2,205 rape cases were registered, while the number came down to 2,025 in 2025. Mr Kumar said the police were acting with sensitivity in matters related to women’s safety and were placing special emphasis on speedy investigations.
Highlighting the crackdown on illegal arms, the DGP said that between January and December 2025, the police seized 4,963 illegal firearms, 54 licensed weapons and 30,133 cartridges. In addition, 74 mini gun factories operating in the state were busted, a development described as a major success in crime control.

Referring to action against human trafficking, Mr Kumar said the police launched a special drive titled *Naya Savera Abhiyan* from July 31 to August 14, 2025. During the operation, 41 minor girls, several women and 64 minor boys were rescued from traffickers. A total of 28 male and 22 female traffickers were arrested under the campaign.
Speaking on the role of the Special Task Force (STF), the DGP said that in 2025 the STF adopted a tough stance against criminals. During the year, 29 encounters took place and 1,682 criminals were arrested. The STF also arrested 134 Naxalites.
He added that six Naxalites, including five key wanted extremists and one squad member, surrendered during the year. Those who laid down arms were identified as Ravan Koda, Akhilesh Singh, Bhola Koda, Narayan Koda, Bahadur Koda and Vinod Kora.
Concluding the briefing, the DGP said Bihar Police would continue to act firmly against crime in the coming days, reiterating that the safety of the general public would remain its top priority.
